You have taken a right turn. I was watching you when you took the “U”turn. Why did you go all the way to Mount Carmel School all the way to come to Hitvada, asked me the Editor, Hitvada, decades before when he took the charge of Editor.
In my youth I used to ride a bicycle when on a particular day I found that there was no time for me to do my exercise. So I came on my bicycle, said I. It is good, “said, he,” Mr. Vijay Phansikar, the Editor of Hitvada.
That way I had a talk with him a day before, when Mr. Shanker Menon, Principal Secretary, asked me to see him for some of his work. The work of my lovely professor who taught me the Future Writing subject when I was a student of Journalism. Mr. Shanker Menon was then an Additional Divisional Commissioner at Nagpur. I went to Mr. Vijay Phansikar, and I remembered he spoke to me about perception, his talk was not about accidents in the cities but was the subject of younger generations and the outcome of it with variable incidents. An incident where one blew the horn and some one disturbed to some by his action, a harsh cut even. Vijay Phansikar looks on the future to mold the young generation. Today, THE HITVADA edition again carries out his column under the title ” SENIOR CITIZENS ‘ : Conscience-Keeper of the Society under, LOUD THINKING column of Shri Vijay Phansikar.
That way I know Vijay Saheb through A. A. khan, the DG of the Naxalite, who was on his last posting at Nagpur. He had some problem with the late Balsaheb Thakre, the supremo and a remote controller of ShivSena / BJP government as its CM master Manohar Joshi. Mr. A.A. Khan was a real ancestor of the Maharaja who spoke to me about his estate at Amravati, in fact in Vidarbha Region. He told me that his entry was DCP Nagpur when Mr. Vijay started his career as a journalist, he said. He did talk about his marriage and who attended Mr. Phansikar’s, SHADI event.
A khandani Mr A.A. Khan, (IPS) officer did not bring to my senses his service to Nation first, is the foremost duty of an individual Indian, duty is on top priority, he said to me. Before that I was impressed by Iqubal Ahmad, who was Supt. of Railway Police, and was seated in an Administrative Building, opp. GPO, which was the place to me to have my entertainment, to wake up in Journalism for teaching through journalism. Brilliant Police Supdt. Eqbal Ahmad’s wife was a Doctor and was attached to Mental Hospital, Nagpur whose experiences through an IPS officer were unique experiences to me. An suspended IPS officer at that time, in Gowari riots that took place and gave birth to Dr. Mahatme, as a leader of their Community, in fact a husband of my distant sister, Dr. Sunita Vairagade. Dr Mahatme was a full term Rajyasabha Member after that issue, people then shouted. They all IPS officers spoke hundred percent good about Vijay Phansikar.
So I decided to go on the path of Mr.Vijay Phansikar, who was criticized by the journalists of his time but then he was an Editor of THE HITVADA. Unfortunately he once came along with his wife Shobha Phansikar on the Roller Skating Ground, where I was the President of Maharashtra Roller Skating Federation. Just we came to Nagpur from New Delhi. The Nationals were held under Mr. Greeco, a foreigner, who was the coach there to Jagdish Titler’s daughter. He came to India and made his home the Manav Sthali Shikshan Santha, one of the renowned schools run by the congressman, Mr. Titler. Mr. Greeco’s second marriage with a south Indian Girl definitely was a talk. But I learnt from him 100 percent honesty in the game.
Mr. Prakash Sharma , the then secretary of our Federation made some mistakes which were made public then. Mr. Vijay Phasikar, as a leader and Editor came on the ground and specifically convinced Sharma that he will not be there as Secretary for whole life. It is trust and work for the budding skaters. One will come and in the time he will vacate his seat for some new comer.
He did not speak much at the ground, Mr. Sharma narrated to me as a President, but his impression was more than enough to the young skaters. Few of them were the sons of our Executive members as well. Something went wrong between the President and Secretary and Mr. Prakash Sharma brought in a New President. Dr. Ajay Sood, was not only good in talk but was a specialist doctor and was running his clinic along with his Doctor wife.
I did not meet Phansikar, on the subject of Mr. Sharma’s misconduct because he was twice right in saying that one will go and another will come in the Roller Skating Trust. After that Mr. Prakash went on changing his Presidents one by one but no change appeared on the certificate of the Charity Commissioner. Mr. Prakash Sharma was able to change as many as all the 7 executive members one by one of his choice and need. And in that Zamela the Bombay federation was able to grab their powers. Now Nagpur Roller Skating is working under the Mumbai (Now) executive committee, it is said. Before the Director Sports, Mr. Kulkarni it is declared that the Nagpur Federation is oldest one and shall have all the powers to run it under the leadership of Sharad Borkar, it was declared by the sports Directorate in News Papers as well.
What was wrong with Vijay Phasikar’s piece of advice? Nothing was wrong. Definitely new men will come and will go in any trust. But the organisation should have its discipline in taking any conclusion, wrong or right. But all the times should be in favor of skaters first and then in favor of the Federation, he did say. That way to Mr. Vijay Phasikar I never saw as a trustee of any institute, that may be with Madam Phasikar. But I saw a crusader who watched a new generation with the eyes of his PEN and as an Editor of THE HITAVADA, he always guided. I marked as I read today’s newspaper, with his mighty pen in favor of the new generation. He keeps guiding the young one.
