Fr. Ivan Lobo’s Cambridge Degree From Nagpur(IT WAS THEN A LONDON BOARD, U.K.)

More pride it is within me, in fact, it is to me a proud that in your regime, I rolled over SFS, School, in fact there was a hate for the Minority School, since the SFS school was on government grant. It was then known Mantralaya ,before it was Sachivalaya. Actually an officer and a staff was from the school run by Zilla Perished or the schools of respective Corporations in the state of Maharashtra. Sir, Nagar Perished schools then were not in question since these missionary schools were mostly in urban areas. They do the business here and called themselves Minority, most of the Mantralaya employees said.“ Education Officer Shri Ram Pawar gave trouble to SFS school and a lot of trouble to you in particular. I heard it from Shri Anis Ahmad, your student, and the Ex-Minister in the state of Maharashtra, on a train journey from Mumbai to Nagpur. I know your school manager, along with you, took the matter before Nagpur Divisional Commissioner, … but in vain. Since he overruled the decision of an education officer to stopped your salary instead of all the SFS teachers. The authorities then for the silly reason were able to stop your salary for 9 months because yours was a Christian school, under the banner of Minority.“ I agreed that your school was and is on a fully state government grant. But yours school reputation these Marathi people were fully unaware of that the school started in Britishers time by the Catholic Priest who came from France. He who, in 1870 started the school in Kamptee first for the colony of the Britishers Soldiers Children. It was functioning till then that Nagpur Railway Station was not in existence in Nagpur.“
What that Shri Ram Pawar, an education Officer, supposed to be in planning to meet you at the PAN THELA TAPARI? Father.“ He, who is today’s Ram, would have taken an efforts to meet you at Chapel on Sunday, at the prayer, that would have been great, on his part.“ That was the reason for me to plead as a young journalist with the then Minister and with the then secretary when your student Anis Ahmed told me all that in a train.“ Sir, it happened, this way…“ Actually, I got a confirmed berth in train from Mumbai and Mr. Anis Ahmad, your Ex-student and a then a minister got his berth confirmed from Nasik because he was just a MLA at that time and I got my berth confirmed by virtue of being railway committee member. I were nominated by GM, Pralhan, Central Railway who was DRM, at Nagpur Central Railway, at the time, I was a President of Maharashtra Chalak Sangh. Sir, Mr. Anis could not get Takia (pillow) in AC before Nasik. So he pulled my USHI (pillow). We both were meeting after years and years.“I was an sub editor of the “ UWARANG” newspaper devoted to Nagpur University and Anis Ahmad was making his debut in Nagpur University youth politics. He mate me in the university campus. The then Vice Chancellor Kalmegh was the friend of our editor, late Devendra Jaiswal, a wine shop owner and a best friend of the youth congress state unit president Mr. Satish Chaturvedi. Actually Satish used to ride Jaiswals Bicycle for days to move in the city and Anis was a new comer. But was well to do. Rather I was financially weak and used to work part time in the wine shop of Devendra Jaiswal, at Patel Square, Great Nag Road, Nagpur.“ Late Kalmegh was a Vice Chancellor and was more a political man who was able to appoint more than 300 young boys in Nagpur University, keeping aside the role of registrar, Late Balraj Aher and the usual formalities of appointments.“ That was the time of Hindi Hatao mohim and the Leader was Satish Chaturvedi, at that time he was young boy’s messiah (god) and a State NSUI President. At that time Congress was in power in India. So all these leaders were congress numayande (key faces) of politics. Shrikant Jichkar’s cousin, who could not be a UR in his life time, brought Dr. Shrikant Jichkar in field of Politics. Dr. Jichkar became the president in the university election, defeating our today minister, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, as Nagpur University UR. All were the Sagas of that time. And, I was a FALATU Journalist of YUWARANG newspaper, attached to my part time activities at the wine shop of Devendra Jaiswal, for my pocket expenses.“ Anis Ahmad came into the picture after that, and I was the CHUPA rustam journalist of youth paper to him. After years he met me in train and when congress was not in power. Shiv-Sainik, Master Manohar Joshi became the Chief Minister in Maharashtra State.“ … ANIS AHMAD pulled my pillow to have a rest up to Nasik Road station, where he will get the confirmed berth and a bed roll together. But my son RUTU pulled back my pillow, and it happened more than twice. “ Anis asked his name… and my son answer to it as “Rutu” _ Kya … Ladki ka nam nahi … “TERA NAM BOLE” and I came in between. Abruptly he said further “KAHA PADHA-TA,” hai. And ” I said”, SFS, School. And he stares at me … BOLA “mera kam kar de”.“ He told me all the stories of SFS school and today’s RAM, an Inspector’s reverse remark for not receiving at the schools by Fr. Ivan Lobo. He further appealed to me, saying that he is congress MLA and that the “UTI” (Shiv Sena- BJP) government is in the state. He requested me, and I took the matter in my hand.
Anis was knowing me then from my Daily only one English Paper, NAGPUR TIMES”. English Daily News Paper Hitvada, Nagpur edition was closed at that time. And sir, you see, all the MAHA RATTIS” in whose contacts I came were kings of youths of that time. Hitvada restarted in 1980-81 then by Banwarilal Purohit, now the Governor of Punjab. And Nagpur was a political Hub of Congress Netas because of Mahatma Gandhi & Vinoba Bhave’s, Sewagram and Pawanar stations.“
Fr. Lobo, you repeatedly introduced me the other day, saying that I helped you in the old days when you were the principal of St. Francis De Sales High School, Sadar, Nagpur. You did say that the order I handed over to you was not less than its identity of any prize you are receiving from the President, alike to you. When I handed over it to you at the Vasant Salpekar Petrol Pump, Sitabuldi, Nagpur on my way back to my house since you were not available at your home. The lady there told me that you had gone out. I waited there for a while and then started from there with a hope that I should feel petrol in my Lambretta Scooter, before it made a halt in the middle of the road.
“Mr. Vilas Vasant Salpekar, is my good friend and we were together in Law college. He received you along with teacher Mr. Daniel James was his pride and you were pleased to say that it is just that you receiving papers from the President of India, you confessed.“ Fr. Lobo, I was just instrumental in between the things happened because a Marathi teacher was given to you as a Teacher, who was unable to translate Marathi into hindi/english in the convent school of mostly non Maharashtrian boys.“ I settled the said issue after pleading it with the then Higher Education Minister Datta Rane. Who was in built Quality of Listening, the actual problem and quick decision by handing over the subject to a concerned officer. He asked Mr. Maske, the then Dy. Director of Education, Nagpur to get the work done.
I, alongwith Mr. Lobo and his school Manager met the concerned officer the next day at 4.00 p.m. in his office at Old Morris College, Nagpur as per schedule appointment had been given to me in front of Education Minister, Datta Rane.“ The MARATHI WORD “GHOLE” came in between to Mr. Lobo’s problem, when Dy. Director of Education asked him the exact meaning of ‘Ghole”. What a Ghole, he (officer) asked in affirmative rather twice & thrice to Father Lobo, Priest Father and a Principal, of SFS High School. In fact, the GHOLE word I put in an application, which Fr. Lobo was unable to explain correctly.. And I stood there as fathers translator. “Sir, Mr. Deputy Director, “I said”, I will explain the word because … I translate the English version of Principal in Marathi. “Ghole” is not perfect in its sense. It is not a perfect word either for in quantity, its measure, mixing of two or things or in its density. Ghole, is … therefore, a marathi teacher sent in a convent school, where the students mostly knowing Hindi & English __mind well. Don’t be smart in your questions to Fr. Lobo, in this way of insulting him before we all. And the atmosphere changed all together, since the then minister Datta Rane asked Dy Director for an out come with favorable result in favor of the school after heard of the story in Mantralaya. Fr. Ivan Lobo, it all happened because I was backed as journalist by your powerful students who were Ministers in the state and in central govt. Anis Ahmad, Shrikant Jichkar, Mukul Wasnik and few were those who have got name and fame at that time. Such as Sharad Bobde, Harish Salve and Dinshaw Ice Cream Proprietor, Mr. Jimmy Rana Dinshaw who was in competition with Wadia Group, once said “ MAINE IMANDARI KEE PADHAI KIYA.” Now competitor Wadia group is no where in Ice Cream business.“Any how, I was aware all these because of my son RUTU SHARAD BORKAR was there in your school, who always used to speak to me about the various high ranking officers in Indian Military as a guest of honor at the programmed, held at your school, were the ex-students of SFS.
“I conclude here that once I had been to Hero Manoj Kumar, at his home along with my friend and senior one to me in school Mr. Jagjit Singh Raikawar at Mumbai. Manoj Kumar told me the story of HINDI BLOCK BLUSTERED FILM “ UPKAR.” He narrated me the phone call from the then Prime Minister Shastri jee behind UPKAR. He said, “not me”, but it was 3 minutes of Shastri Jee, in his New Delhi office, who said, “ Manoj jee”, I want to make a film on my Slogan “JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN”. And you see the out come of the BLOCK BUSTER FILM. The story was completed by me, Mr Manoj Kumar said, in the RAJDHANI train journey from NEW DELHI to BANDARA. Because of Shastri jee’s “AA-WA-RA”. I should say here that after an year I could solved the problems of SFS school because of schools reputation and because of your teaching, I am told, in particular. What was the attraction of FAUJI DRESS guests on occasion in SFS School? It is still a question to me. Even Mr. Saini, Director of Disaster Management College. l, witnessed as a guest in this school, after his predecessors.
“Among mil terry, khaki and RANGI- BIRANGI (Color T Shirt) clots there was a boy underneath his garments was Fr. Ivan Lobo, as one student of this school. His father was working in Old Sachivalaya Opp. Regal Talkies, Mumbai when Nagpur was in Madhya Pradesh. In 1956 Fr. Lobo came in Nagpur and was admitted in SFS, school. After years he learned the same Marathi lesson in his standard IXth standard. When Nagpur came in Maharashtra and Marathi was a compulsory subject in schools. YERE YERE PAWASA TULA DETO PAISA, was his favorite poem, he recites before me, often. In 1961 he passed out a Senior Cambridge Examination which was conducted by Cambridge Board, England from the same SFS, School, Nagpur. It was a boys school but since 2008, girls also admitted in this school. So now my grand daughter is a student of SFS school in 3rd Std.
